Foodtalk is a new six-part SoundsDoable series starting on Newstalk on Christmas Day.

And like it says on the jar, it's a show all about food, and the people who produce, harvest, rear, cook and eat it.

Each week the show will eavesdrop on chef, Kevin Thornton and food blogger, Caroline Hennesy as they meet in Thornton's Restaurant to talk about everything from their food philosopies, to their latest finds at the Famers' Market.

Special super close up food recordings for the program were made by Chris Watson, with Kevin playing a variety of instruments, from the fish knife to the carcas of venison.

Each week, the conversation will flow around one class of food, from livestock to dairy to food that grows wild around the country

+ Program 1: "Livestock" (Christmas Day)
Kevin Thornton and Caroline Hennessey hunt down some fine meats and
Kevin's project to rear Irish Kobe beef. With guests Jacque Barry from Jacques, Cork and Fingal Ferguson of the Gubbeen Smokehouse, Schull, West Cork

Kevin Thornton and Caroline Hennessy share their pleasure in eating seafood. With guests Tony Daly from The Lime Tree, Kenmare, and Paul Kelly, Mussel farmer and goldsmith, from Kilmacillogue

By The Book:
Harold McGee’s On Food and Cooking

Scientist and gourmet Harold McGee’s On Food and Cooking is credited with inspiring a generation of creative chefs including Heston Blumenthal and tonight’s guest, Barcelona ‘creative cuisine’ star, Jordhi Artal. McGee’s book was revolutionary in examining everything that happened in the kitchen from a rigorously scientific viewpoint, discovering the truth about the physics and chemistry of cuisine, and on the way kickstarting the movement that became known as “molecular gastronomy”.

In this program, round-Ireland seakayaker, Eileen Murphy, shares her passion for Robert Lloyd Praeger’s delightfully exhaustive chronicle of the Irish countryside and a life spent walking it.
